Social Media Marketing 101

The Social Media Marketing 101 course was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

 

Overview: 

Duration:  Students can expect to spend 20 hours/week. This is an 8-week full-time course.

Application fee: $150 (Domestic and International)

Tuition Fee: $1,000 (Domestic and International Student)

Start Date: Intake on the first Monday of each month

Credential: Diploma Course

 

Social media is a core pillar of business marketing strategies. Businesses use social media to build brand awareness, connect with customers, and generate sales and revenue. As such, social media marketing is a growing and valued profession, with many job opportunities.

 

After gaining experience in social media, social media managers can expand into many other areas such as digital marketing, content creation, programmatic advertising, PR and communications, and growth marketing.

 

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the components of social media marketing. Upon completion, students will know how to create and execute a social media strategy that achieves business objectives. They will also learn the basics of graphic design, copywriting, and analysis & reporting so that they can execute their social media strategies.

 

As a social media professional, you may perform the following responsibilities:

  • Creating content to post on social media accounts, including images, videos, and written copy

  • Managing budgets and running social media advertising campaigns

  • Creating a social media calendar and publishing content across various platforms

  • Monitoring and responding to messages, replies, and comments

  • Creating a cohesive social media strategy that achieves specific business objectives such as driving website traffic and sales

  • Engaging with customers and providing customer support

Admission requirements:

  1.  All applicants should be high school graduates OR 19 years or older at the start of the applicant’s program or course.

  2. Applicants must demonstrate, using one of the assessments listed below, competency in the English language.

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: overall band of 6 or higher, with a minimum 5.0 in each band

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): iBT 88 or higher, with no sub score less than 20

  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Score of 70 or higher with no sub score less than 60

  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Score of 61 or higher

  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI): Level 5 with an essay score of 30 or higher

  • Coastal College of British Columbia (CCBC) Language Proficiency Assessment score of 40

  • Canadian Language Benchmarks:

o Listening-6

o Speaking-6

o Reading-6

o Writing-4

  • English 12 with a C

  • Post-secondary English-6 credits with a C

3. To be successful in an online course, students need to be able to:

1.       Copy and paste

2.       Locate and upload a file

3.       Use a web browser and word processor

4.       Send and receive emails
